Nils Lofgren was born June 21, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. He currently plays
guitar and accordian as a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street
Band. He originally joined the band in 1984 after Stevie Van
Zandt.
Nils took up the accordion in high school and joined Neil Young's band
at age 17 and played piano on the LP "After the Gold Rush". He
also appeared with Young on the "Tonight's the Night" and toured with
him in support of the record.
Nils parlayed his relationship with Young to secure a record deal for
his new band "Grin". From 1971-1974, the band released 4 albums
which consisted of catchy hard driven guitar rock. While
garnering some critics approval, the band never made it to the big-time
and was disbanded. In 1975, he started his solo career and
published the self titled "Nils Lofgren" with A&M records. The
album featured 2 hits "Keith Don't Go" and "Back It Up".
In 1984, Nils joined the E street Band in time for the Born In The USA
tour . He followed up the tour with another solo release
called "Flip". He toured again with Bruce and the E Street Band
in 1988 in the Tunnel of Love tour. In 1989, the E Street Band
broke up and remained inactive until the band was revived in 1999.
In 1992, he joined Ringo Starr and The All Starr Band for the 1992
World Tour. In 2002, Nils was back with the E Street Band
for The Rising tour. He will join the band for the 2007 Magic
tour. Nil's latest release "Scared Weapon" was released in 2006.
